We met on January 30, 2010, at our mutual friend’s, Skylar Wood, house. Skylar was Alex’s best friend from high school and Kyle’s new friend from college. When Skylar decided to visit his family for the weekend he brought his new friend along. Skylar invited Alex over to his house to catch up while he was in town. Alex pulled up to the house and got out of the car. After she hugged Skylar, he introduced her to Kyle and said, “Alex this is your new boyfriend…”
The first eight months of our relationship we would see each other on the weekends. Kyle lived in Camarillo while he attended Cal State Channel Islands and Alex was attending Crafton Community College in Yucaipa.
On August 21, 2010, Kyle, Alex, and her family moved her to Arizona where she would attend Arizona State University. Alex was in Arizona for two and a half years. We had to settle on seeing each other once a month.
Kyle graduated from Cal State Channel Islands in May of 2012. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in political science he worked on various political campaigns. In September of 2012, he moved to Wisconsin to work on President Barrack Obama’s presidential campaign for three months. We didn’t see each other during this time.
Alex graduated from Arizona State in December of 2012 and moved back to California in January of 2013. We moved into our first apartment in Glendora, California. This was the hardest part of our relationship. We were college graduates, had jobs we hated, and dirt poor.
In January of 2014, we moved in with Kyle’s grandparents in Camarillo. Kyle was working from home as a consultant for political candidates and non-profits, and Alex was a teller supervisor. Kyle was hired at Nationbuilder in March of 2014, and we relocated to LA.
We moved to Monterey Park, California in March of 2014. Alex got a job as a teller/personal banker in the middle of West Hollywood. Kyle continued to grow in his career at Nationbuilder and Alex began working random part-time jobs in the media industry. In June of 2015, Alex was hired at a school district to become their Public Information Officer.
February 14, 2016, was our 6th anniversary. Kyle began the day with an online scavenger hunt asking Alex questions about Friends (her favorite tv show), Harry Potter (her favorite book series), and random other questions. The scavenger hunt led her to get a massage and ended the night at a Brazilian restaurant where they ate dinner.
(Alex has been expecting a proposal for the past two years. It was a rollercoaster of emotions every time a holiday/birthday was coming, because Alex convinced herself Kyle would be proposing.)
As we pulled into our driveway, Alex was forced to realize there would be no proposal. She walked into the house to put her food down and realized the front door stood ajar. She walked around the door, to see where Kyle had gone, and saw him on his knee on the doorstep.
We will marry on June 17, 2017, at Bella Vista Groves in Fillmore, California. We hope you will be able to join us 🙂
